J1 League – Clontarf 20 Bective 8
by Mark Byrnes
Clontarf continued their winning ways with a 27-8 victory over Bective at Castle Ave.
The home side began sluggishly and only poor handling denied them on a number of occasions as they cut Bective open with some fine training ground moves.
Martin Dufficy opened the scoring on nine minutes with a penalty but unfortunately missed with two further efforts.
Ross McAuley continued his fine form with a try in the corner from a line out at the Castle Avenue end and the score remained 8-0 at the interval.
The second half was only four minutes old when captain for the night Dufficy scored a memorable try. Gathering the ball inside his own half, he whizzed through the porous defense to touch down for an individual piece of skill and speed.
Bective opened their account with a penalty on 51 minutes, but Dufficy once more responded in a majestic way- running and chipping ahead and getting a favourable bounce to go under the posts to make it 20-3.
Dufficy completed his hat trick with a carbon copy of his second try with ten minutes left, this time the try was scored in the corner and he added the conversion to cap a superb night for the former Ireland U20 international.
Bective got a late consolation touchdown to leave it 20-8 at the full time whistle.
