‘Tarf had not won this trophy since 1946 when we retained the trophy won for the first time in 1945 but in 2010 we were victorious again with a team led by Robin Brophy.

Last Thursday 14th June, Tarf won it again in Grange Golf Club – this time without Robin who was on his honeymoon. Four pairs from each of the Leinster Senior clubs play Scotch Foursomes at four different time slots during the day and each pair play with a pair from a different club. The best three scores are counted so that each club is allowed one discard. Representing ‘Tarf were Jim Barden and Brendan Cole, John Glackin and Niall Glackin, Brian Goff and Derry Kealy, Pat McHale and
Dominic O Grady.

So two days after handing new President Terry Browne his medal of office, new Past President John Glackin brought him back the first trophy and pennant of the new season. Besides actually winning, one of the more satisfying aspects was that we pipped the favourites St.Marys who were the holders and who thought they had won it again but a great score by Pat and Dominic in the
last quadrant was better than St.Marys third counting score and enough to achieve victory.

It wasn’t the AIL but it was a great start to the season and hopefully the AIL will follow as it did for St.Marys last season.
