A quick three tries for the Newbies proved not to be enough . . .
There is a joke about a young bull and an old bull at the top of a field chewing grass. The young bull says to the older one ‘Let’s run down to the bottom of the field and shag one of those cows’. The older bull continues chewing slowly, swallows the grass and turns to the younger bull and says ‘Let’s walk down and shag them all’.
The Newbies v Oldies game kicked off last Friday night on a balmy September evening. The Newbies started brightly crossing for three quick tries in the opening 15 minutes. Kevin Lillis, Will O’Siorain and Stephen Simpson each crossed the whitewash for one apiece. When that third try was scored it looked like it might be a long night for the Oldies. However, the tide turned and the Golden Oldies imposed a purple patch on the Newbies that lasted well into the seventieth minute of the game.
At halftime the Newbies lead 3-2. But the Golden Oldies worked their way back into the context with two quick tries in the first fifteen minutes of the second half. Fergal Bannon, Donal Reen (2), Stephen Teeling, Brian Murphy and Paid O’Shea all scored.
