Leinster Senior 2nds League Semi Final

On Monday evening 4th October our J1s, under their new managers Paddy Haslett and Dominic O Grady, won the first trophy of the season and at the same time reached the first final of the season.

The semi final of the Leinster Senior 2nds League, in which Tarf defeated Terenure College by 45-5, was also played for the Kennedy McCann Trophy.

In a very strong performance the main feature was the 4 tries scored by outhalf Matt D’Arcy adding to the hattrick in his last outing against UCD.

In introducing Finola Kennedy, widow of Frank, and Fiona McCann, daughter in law of Harry McCann, who presented the trophy to the winning captain Turlough Considine, Club President John Glackin explained for the benefit of the younger members present that Frank Kennedy was a Past President and former great stalwart of Tarf who died suddenly twelve years ago and that his friends in the club arranged for this trophy to be played for on an annual basis with Terenure College where Frank had close associations and some great friends. He added that the trophy was originally called the Frank Kennedy Memorial trophy but when Frank’s great buddy Harry McCann, a past President of Terenure, died a few years later the trophy was renamed the Kennedy McCann trophy.

It had not been contested for a few seasons as Tarf and Terenure had not met so that on this occasion the opportunity to revive it was taken.

Frank’s sons Leo and Roy also attended and Leo was seen buying a new Tarf tracksuit so that we will hopefully see more of him during the season.
